Max’s story can be traced back to a single moment in time when he was hit by a devastating rogue wave during a race to row 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean with Chris Williams in 2017.
What followed - amidst the worst conditions in a decade - is a battle to survive widely regarded as one of the most perilous sequence of events in the history of ocean racing. After a capsize, fire and almost fatal rescue attempt by a colossal oil tanker in the middle of the night, the difference between life and death was ultimately determined by a few inches and a series of extraordinary decisions. some of that rescue is seen in the footage above.
Not wanting to be defined by this worst-case scenario, Max took control of his narrative and orchestrated a breathtaking comeback.
